Returning to the River: A Sunset Session with the Hinojosa Family at Cibolo Center for Conservation

Some stories come full circle, and the Hinojosa family’s recent portrait session was one of those moments that made me pause and appreciate the beauty of time.

We met at the Cibolo Center for Conservation in Boerne, TX — a place that holds deep meaning for the family. They hadn’t returned here in five years, not since the pregnancy of their youngest child. To step back into the riverbeds and open fields with them, now as a family of four, was powerful. It was more than a photo session — it felt like natures homecoming.

As golden hour approached, the sun stretched low across the horizon, casting a warm glow over the water and tall grasses. The kids splashed barefoot in the river, laughter echoing against the river banks. Their joy was contagious, and it was clear they were in their element — muddy, happy, and fully present.

We moved through the trails and wildflower fields, each frame capturing natural connection: little fist bumps, windblown curls, and sun-kissed cheeks. There’s something timeless about photographing families in nature — especially in a place layered with personal history. It felt like the land remembered them.

Watching the Hinojosas interact, I was reminded that family photography isn’t just about freezing time. It’s about honoring the journey. From expectant parents walking this same riverbank years ago to now seeing their kids run freely through it… that’s a story worth telling.
